In 1960 a Norwegian explorer and writer located this Viking site that dates from the 11th century. This picture shows a replica of the type of buildings used during that period. One of the structures excavated at the site was 21.34 metres (60') long by 17.06 metres (56') wide. In 1978 the site was designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains several sod buildings. |
